    JAFZA & JAFZA Offshore

Large-scale trade, re-export, manufacturing, warehousing, port linkage, and selected offshore structures.

    Best Fit

Large-scale trade, re-export, manufacturing, warehousing, port linkage, foreign branches, and selected offshore structures. The Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA) is one of the oldest and largest free zones in the UAE, located alongside Jebel Ali Port in Dubai, one of the busiest container ports in the region. Its core identity is logistics and physical trade rather than light digital business, and it offers both operating free-zone companies and, through JAFZA Offshore, non-resident holding structures.

    Strengths

Best-in-class logistics and trade relevance thanks to direct port linkage and extensive warehousing and industrial land. The offshore capability adds structuring flexibility for holding and asset-ownership use cases that sit alongside the operating zone. As a UAE free zone it generally allows 100% foreign ownership and the standard free-zone tax treatment, subject to economic substance.

Who It Suits, Who It Doesn't

JAFZA is built for businesses with a genuine physical and trade footprint, not for founders who only need a desk and a licence.

    • Strong fit: importers, re-exporters, manufacturers, distributors, and logistics operators that benefit from being next to the port.
    • Strong fit for structuring: JAFZA Offshore for holding companies and asset ownership where no local operating presence is needed.
    • Weaker fit: solo consultants, content creators, and purely remote digital businesses, for whom a founder-package zone is simpler and cheaper.

    Costs to Plan For

Because JAFZA is infrastructure-led, cost depends heavily on the facility chosen, whether warehousing, industrial land, or office space, rather than a single headline package figure. Plan for facility leasing, establishment and visa costs tied to the operation, and ongoing renewals. Confirm current pricing and facility requirements directly with the zone, as these are quote-driven for most real operating cases.

    Key Questions Before You Commit

JAFZA is a strong choice only when the operation genuinely benefits from port proximity and physical infrastructure, so test that before committing.

    • Do my goods or supply chain actually move through or near Jebel Ali Port, or is the link incidental?
    • What facility do I need: office, warehouse, or industrial land, and how does that drive the cost?
    • Am I choosing the operating free-zone company, the offshore holding structure, or both, and for what purpose?
    • Would a lighter free-zone setup elsewhere serve me better if my footprint is mostly digital?

    How to Verify

Because JAFZA is facility-led, the cost and feasibility depend on details that are best confirmed directly rather than assumed.

    • Confirm the facility type and size you need, whether office, warehouse, or land, and its cost.
    • Check that your trade or manufacturing activity is permitted and what approvals it requires.
    • Clarify whether you need the operating company, the offshore structure, or both, and for what purpose.
    • Get establishment, visa, and renewal costs in writing so the full operating figure is visible.

    Watch-outs

Not a desk-only founder zone. Model the real operating footprint, including warehousing or land, before choosing it, and distinguish clearly between the operating free-zone company and the JAFZA Offshore structure, which solve different problems.
