An NOC (No Objection Certificate) is a UAE legal document where one party explicitly states they don't object to another party taking a specific action. It's required from your current employer to switch jobs, from your sponsor for family visa applications, from your landlord for major property changes, and from your free zone for certain corporate actions. NOCs must be on letterhead, signed, often stamped, and sometimes notarised.

NOC stands for No Objection Certificate — a formal written confirmation from a sponsor, employer, or authority stating they have no objection to a specific action. NOCs are required across UAE government and private transactions: changing employers, sponsoring family members, renting property, or transferring company shares.

How to do it — step by step

    1. 1

      Identify the issuer

The NOC must come from the party whose objection would otherwise block the action — your employer, sponsor, landlord, free zone authority, or bank.

    2. 2

Use letterhead and structure it correctly

An NOC needs: issuer letterhead, date, addressee (often 'To Whom It May Concern'), purpose, statement of no objection, signatory name and title, signature, and company stamp.

    3. 3

      Confirm if attestation is required

NOCs used inside the UAE typically don't need attestation. NOCs used abroad must be attested by MOFAIC and then by the destination country's embassy.

    4. 4

      Submit alongside the main application

The NOC is supporting documentation. Submit it with the primary form (visa application, RERA Ejari change, share transfer agreement, etc.).

    5. 5

      Keep a digital copy

Many UAE authorities now accept emailed PDFs. Always retain the original until the linked transaction is fully closed.

    Key terms explained

    Employment NOC

Letter from your current employer permitting you to take a second job, work for a different sponsor, or join another company.

    Sponsor NOC

Letter from your visa sponsor allowing you to take an action requiring sponsor consent — opening a bank account, renting, or sponsoring a dependent.

    Landlord NOC

Permission from the property owner to make changes — installing AC units, subletting, or using the property as a business address.

    Free zone NOC

Authority confirmation for actions outside its scope — typically required for mainland banking, government tenders, or cross-zone visa transfers.

    Common problems & fixes

Employer refuses to issue an NOC for a new job

Since the 2021 MOHRE reforms, employers cannot withhold NOCs to block job moves. File a complaint via MOHRE and the labour ban will not apply.

    NOC rejected for missing stamp

Government and bank NOCs almost always require a company stamp in addition to the signature. Reprint with stamp — most issuers do this within hours.

    NOC dated incorrectly

NOCs are typically valid for 30 days from the issue date. If your transaction is delayed beyond that, request a fresh NOC rather than altering the date — alteration can invalidate the document.

NOC accepted in UAE but rejected abroad

Foreign authorities require attestation. Take the NOC to MOFAIC for UAE attestation, then to the embassy of the destination country for legalisation.
